Hitch Pin Lock

This is a nice locking hitch pin. Great quality materials and holding up really well.

This is a really big lock. That's good and bad as I see it. The pin is solid and long enough that the cotter pin is easy to get in. This is important as you don't want to put pressure on the lock itself so the cotter pin will stop the actual hitch pin from sliding over too far. It's primary problem is that the actual locking device is just huge. I'm not sure this really makes the lock any stronger as these cylinder locks aren't exactly the most secure to begin with. But more importantly, the lock body gets in the way of things a bit. I ended up using this when adding a bike rack to someone's car for them. As I had to get a 1 1/4" to 2" adapter it worked out that this lock was used further away from the actual hitch. If I had to use a lock like this on a 2" hitch directly under the bumper it would have been difficult to fit it. As it is, all worked out and overall this lock appears to be strong and suitable for most applications.

I like this pin lock fine, and the operation is very easy compared to some other locks I've used where you need three hands to lock them. The head is quite bulky though and gets in the way sometimes while hooking up my safety chains because it just hangs down in front of the loop. Not sure why it was designed this way. It's pretty secure though and feels heavier than the others, inspiring some confidence in its security. Rubber cap to keep the moisture out of the locking mechanism.

Good and secure for my drop hitch. The pin has room to install the clevis pin with the lock on the end, which is nice. It keeps the lock from bearing the brunt of the load on the pin if it gets slid before weight goes on the hitch. The lock is red, but I just painted it black to match the rest of the hitch. Has a good rubber cover to keep the water and dirt out of the keyway. Solid
